Mere Christianity

An excerpt from book 4, chapter 10.

'Niceness'- wholesome, integrated personality - is an excellent thing. We must try by every medical, educational, economic, and political means in our power to produce a world where as many people as possible grow up `nice'; just as we must try to produce a world where all have plenty to eat. But we must not suppose that even if we succeeded in making everyone nice we should have saved their souls. A world of nice people, content in their own niceness, looking no further, turned away from God, would be just as desperately in need of salvation as a miserable world - and might even be more difficult to save.

For mere improvement is not redemption, though redemption always improves people even here and now and will, in the end, improve them to a degree we cannot yet imagine. God became man to turn creatures into sons: not simply to produce better men of the old kind but to produce a new kind of man. . . .

What can you ever really know of other people's souls-of their temptations, their opportunities, their struggles? One soul in the whole creation you do know: and it is the only one whose fate is placed in your hands. If there is a God, you are, in a tense, alone with Him. You cannot put Him off with speculations about your next door neighbours or memories of what you have read in books. What will all that chatter and hearsay count (will you even be able to remember it?) when the anaesthetic fog which we call 'nature' or `the real world' fades away and the Presence in which you have always stood becomes palpable, immediate, and unavoidable?

Peace In The Midst Of Chaos

It's time for healing time to move on
It's time to fix what's been broken too long
Time make right what has been wrong
It's time to find my way to where I belong
There's a wave that's crashing over me
All I can do is surrender

(Chorus)
Whatever you're doing inside of me
It feels like chaos somehow there's peace
It's hard to surrender to what I can't see
but I'm giving in to something heavenly

Time for a milestone
Time to begin again
Revaluate who I really am
Am I doing everything to follow your will
or just climbing aimlessly over these hills
So show me what it is you want from me
I give everything I surrender...
To...

(Chorus)

Time to face up
Clean this old house
Time to breathe in and let everything out
That I've wanted to say for so many years
Time to to release all my held back tears

Whatever you're doing inside of me
It feels like chaos but I believe
You're up to something bigger than me
Larger than life something heavenly

Whatever you're doing inside of me
It feels like chaos but now I can see
This something bigger than me
Larger than life something heavenly
Something heavenly

It's time to face up
Clean this old house
Time to breathe in and let everything out

Beauty

Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them. Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and His righteousness endured forever. He has caused His wondrous works to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and merciful.
Psalm 111:2-4

Today's Joy.....

My Awesome God never fails! I trusted for today's joy and sure enough he brought it!

Letters!!!!

I love to get mail. I am of the opinion that letters are the best way to communicate with friends who are far away. The only problem is you never have time to write as many as you'd like to receive :)

Joy in the Little Things

Today I indulged in one of my greatest pleasures….. Baking! I love to bake!!! I don’t know why really it’s just always been something I love to do :)

I decided to make my favorite type of cookie, monster cookies. Delicious, peanut buttery goodness with the yummy bonus of chocolaty M&Ms.

Perhaps cookies should not bring me so much joy, but after all if you can’t find joy in the little things what can you find joy in? Our lives are defined by a series of small events. Occasionally those events will morph into one large monumental event, but generally we stick to the small stuff.

Personally I’m quite content with my small stuff, I’m not sure I could handle a life full of big moments. Yeah sure, a couple more big, life altering events might be nice (as long as they’re life changing for the better!), but I’d much rather have a life full of small things that make small differences in people’s lives than one big thing that made one big difference in someone’s life.

So for now, I’ll stick to baking cookies, and that will be enough. I will get joy from that and trust God for tomorrow’s joy.

Go bake some cookies!
