Before The LORD

David danced before the LORD with all his might . . . then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, "How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!" So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

May I encourage you to do all that you do "before the LORD." For it is only when our actions are done before the Lord and not before man, that our life can be truly pleasing to God. Mankind is full of pride, and often our pride hinders our actions, but sometimes it is our pride that causes our actions. So many times Christians make a spectacle of themselves in worship because of their prideful desire for people to see how "good" they are. David's dancing arose not from a desire for people to see him, but from a heart so overwhelmed by the joy and power of Almighty God that he could not keep from dancing. So, yes, be willing to become undignified, not for the attention it draws for yourself, but for the glory of God.

If you're still not sure about this whole rejoicing before the Lord thing, flip open your Bible and read Zephaniah 3:17, if God can rejoice over us can't we rejoice before him?

Go dance before the Lord
. . . who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
